Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction is the upcoming Fifth game in the Franchise. It is going to be released in fall 2009. In this next installment Sam Fisher is searching for the killer of his daughter Sarah Fisher. In this installation of the franchise Sam will be a lot stronger in fights with enemies where you can Mark and execute them, meaning you can target enemies and instantly kill them. Sam will be a lot more vicious and brutal against enemies especially when interrogating them. He has walked out on Third Echelon and is on his own, free to do whatever he pleases and killing enemies as steathily and brutally as he wants to find his daughters killer.

[edit] Old Conviction
Ubisoft Montreal returns once again to develop Conviction. In 2007, Ubisoft first released a trailer in which Sam Fisher was on the run from Third Echelon. He was in Washington D.C. and was able to blend in crowds, distract guards, and utilize hand to hand combat while picking up weapons from fallen enemies. The old version of "Conviction" was to be more sandbox like than prievous games were. Sam Fisher also had an altered look to his features, including that of not having his bodysuit or Nightvision Goggles. Ubisoft Montreal also spent alot of time on working the enviroment which became known as dynamic enviroment. Everything can be pushed over, knocked over, possibly even use as a weapon by Sam. Lighting and shading in the game was vastly improved since Double Agent.
In 2008, it was reported that Conviction was on "hold" for the time being as the team went to re-work the game. Fearing that the game was too similar to Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed.

In March, 2009. Ubisoft contracted Thierry Cimkauskas - a Krav Maga expert.
In May, 2009. Teasers were being placed on the website. The short teasers presented the audience that Michael Ironside does indeed return to voice Sam Fisher. It also discusses what Sam is up to as Third Echelon tries to track him down. During the E3 conference, Ubisoft Montreal reveals a new Splinter Cell: Conviction game. Completely different from the one that was shown back in 2007, Sam Fisher no longer has fringy hair and it more ruthless in hand to hand combat. Ubisoft also shows that the story and presentation is told in real time on the spot during gameplay. Sam can now pick up weapons from fallen enemies, such as a shotgun or an HK MP5. Since Sam doesn't have the high-tech gear he once obtained, he must now use his enviroment to work against his enemies.
In such, Ubisoft brings a gameplay mechanic called "Mark and Execute". A similar style brought to Ubisoft's Rainbow Six: Vegas games. Sam is able to paint his targets and quickly deliver the desired commands.
Stealth mechanics have been enhanced to accommodate the new gameplay mechanics. There has been hints in promo art that the goggles might return but during the E3 press conference, the goggles are not in use as the stealth mechanic is enhanced. When Sam enters the shadows, the screen almost turns black and white to show enemies and objects to attack. Another mechanic to stealth is when the enemy spots Sam and quickly enters the shadows, a transparent figure of Sam's last known position is revealed. This way, the player can tactically flank an enemy.
Another mechanic for escaping an area is called "PEV" or Prepare, Execute, and Vanish. In other words, Sam will need to gather information on the field without having proper information fed to him from Third Echelon. He will then be able to plan a way into an area in which he will improvise on the field. Execute will mean of acting on the plan, quickly and accurately as possible. Sam will then Vanish from the area before agents from Third Echelon are able to reach him. The "PEV" mechanic will be considered a gameplay loop, meaning this will be in every mission Sam goes to.

- New stealth mechanic - No longer using Sam's Multi-Vision Goggles, instead uses shadows where the rest of the environment turns into a bleak black and white.
- Storyline Enviroment - Flashbacks or hints of new characters or situations appear on the foreground of the game environment. Enhancing the storyline in real time. Clues will also be represented within the game such as names of people or mission objectives.
- "PEV" - Prepare, Execute, and Vanish
- "Mark and Execute" - Able to mark enemies and instantly kill them. Can also be used in certain objects within the area.
- Able to acquire weapons on the field, no longer using weapons by Third Echelon
- Crowd Mechanic introduced - Allowing Sam to vanish within the crowd. If causing a panic, Sam will be easily spotted. [1]
- Interrogation Mechanic - Able to interrogate NPC's while using the environment.
- Environment Mechanic Enhanced - Able to break down doors, open windows to enter, car alarms can be set off, and using the environment for cover.

During the E3 conference, it is known that there will be multiplayer. Currently the details are yet to be revealed at the moment.

On July 16, 2007, it was announced that composers Kaveh Cohen and Michael Nielsen in association with music house Groove Addicts will be composing the musical score to Splinter Cell: Conviction, their first score for a videogame.
Currently, it is unknown if Ubisoft still has Cohen and Nielsen contracted.

On July 27, 2009, Ubisoft reported that they will be delaying Splinter Cell: Conviction along with Ubisoft's game for the Wii - Red Steel 2. The reason for delay that was reported by Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot says, "The quality of the games is there for what you've been able to see at E3, but we were not able to have that same quality on the full game of those two products." [2] The delay forced both games up to the first quarter of 2010 instead of them being released in the fall of this year.
The game is set to be released on February 23, 2010.
