His birthdate is wrong. He was born in 1966, not 1957. It was only 1957 once (in Chaos Theory) but they changed it back to 1966 for Double Agent. Check the manual for Splinter Cell and Splinter Cell Double Agent if you don't believe it. He was 38 in the first game.

Actually Sam's birthdate of 1957 is accurate. Because the manual for the first Splinter Cell doesn't say when he was born. 1966 doesn't fit his age because he would be too young during Operation Just Cause in 1989. Ubisoft stated in a interview that they would be 'freezing' Sam's age of 42.

Hello everyone , about the photo of Sam in the Seal during the gulf war : i think it's wrong you've taken victor Coste when he was young , the guy in the middle of the photo is Sam( during the trailer) , i saw the last trailer and i am pretty sure of it, sorry for my bad english.

Splinter Cell: Double Agent Collector's Edition. Sam's real rank is Lt. Cmdr. not E-5. That is an early concept of the discharge paper. The real one with Lt. Cmdr. (0-4) is for the actual game.

Book Opeartions

Seeing as none of the book operations are Canon to the story, do you think we should place them in another section below the game operations with a side note?

Sorry Chaos, but there is no debate regarding the issue. You are completely incorrect and are the only person that I've seen to consider it anyone else rather than Sam. But I will gladly wait until after release when you can admit that you've been wrong. But, I still can't follow your logic how you can comment that it is NOT Sam Fisher when you can clearly see his face (showing it to be Fisher) and then upload a photo of a model who's face you CANNOT see and then claim it to be Sam Fisher? So, I've changed the photo to a neutral piece so that we CAN see Fisher's face, instead of the back of a guy's covered head.

Essentials "non-canon"

Where has Ubisoft declared Essentials non-canon? We can all agree that it has some inconsistencies in portrayal (although it does maintain the key story details)... But how does that invalidate the entire game?

I bring up a point here: Talk:Tom_Clancy's_Splinter_Cell:_Conviction#Canon, about fan defined 'canon' ("original research") and the lack of official quotes from Ubisoft themselves. Please discuss.Baggins 20:49, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

The Essentials level takes place in "Third Echelon". Yes this is contradictory to many of the previous sources. However for honesty, the portrayal in the game needs to be portrayed accurately to the game itself (not rewritten to "fit into" material it contradicts). The anachronisms and contradictions needed to be pointed out, but we need to be honest to readers as well, and show them that it doesn't match up to other material. We need to avoid writing "fanfic" to try to fix anachronisms in the narrative, but show that the anachronismts exist. Unless an official fix to an anachronism was made by Ubisoft(or at least appears in a novel) it doesn't belong in the article Baggins 18:55, April 23, 2010 (UTC)

Novels validity

Ok, so I've been searching for a citation from Ubisoft, or the authors of the novels stating that the novels are "non-canon". Unfortunatelly all I find are conflicting comments in forums by fans. Some that swear the novels are canon, some that swear they are aren't canon, and others that have no idea if they are canon or not... Fan opinion is however not reliable. Does anyone have a proper quote from Ubisoft on their status?

The inclusion of Krav Maga into Conviction even appears to be a reference to the novels. But I haven't found an interview confirming it (though I think I remember reading it).Baggins

Ya, I've noticed latest conviction based novels are different. I've only read half of it, thought it was a prequel to Conviction when I started. Guess not? I haven't seen any similarities, not even any of the same characters between the games as far as I know. Not sure if they take place in the same time frame or not either.

I've seen some people claim though that the first four novels excluding the convictin novels were canon, and the conviction novels themselves represent an alternate series(like the difference between Rainbox Six novel and the game series).Baggins 20:59, April 23, 2010 (UTC)

It seems that Regan Burns may have first been mentioned in the original Splinter Cell novel. Krav Maga also originated in that novel as well, before being incorporating into Conviction. It seems that the novels have had some influence on the series.Baggins 21:30, April 27, 2010 (UTC)

Well, one of the novels shows Sam hating Coen yet in the games he's friendly with her. The only things I consider to be canon in regards to the novels is the info on Sam's deceased wife and that Krav Maga training. That's about it. --70.127.202.77 21:46, April 27, 2010 (UTC)

Coen appears in the second book right? Well, its possible for people to change opinions about other people over time, so showing dislike and later liking someone is not necessarily a contradiction. Actually I recall it was more along the lines of sam resenting the field runner program, and projecting that on Coen. I don't remember exact details of why he resented the program (maybe because the loss of Vernon Wilkes?). But it seems so far most of references from the books have come out of the original two books (or rather the first one so far) rather than the latter ones, whatever that means. Perhaps its possible that both the game designers and the novel writers have access to some kind of "Splinter Cell bible" with general details about Sam's background. In which case it would just be a coincidence that the novels released certain details from the game, rather than the books inspiring details int he games. Oh, someone mentioned that some minor characters mentioned in Splinter Cell: Conviction novel (i'm not sure who) have minor mentions in Conviction the game (don't know how true this is or not). However, what the point of such a cameo means who knows... It still doesn't seem to make the the two stories directly connected. Nor does it explain how both would fit, if there is official intent for both stories to coexist within the same universe. The Conviction novel takes place 1-2 years before the events of the game, in case any of you didn't know.

Try to be civil. You keep rediting because you believe version one to be canon. Ubisoft has never really said which version is canon. Perhaps instead of getting all angry and using caps in repsonse to registered users undoing your edits - you should maybe include "this happened in version one", two, etc.. Age in the novels

I dont recall if someone was going to be making a separate section for the novels. But...page 32 of the Splinter Cell novel has him saying he is forty-seven. However there are no calendar dates in the first novel.Fräulein 20:55, August 8, 2010 (UTC)

That's not entirely true. Conviction confirmed that Lambert was killed in New York. In Essentials, Sam killed Lambert in New Orleans. Also, in one game, Cole Yeagher was a WNN helicopter pilot but in another game, he's a high-ranking JBA member. Bandage

I had wondered that as well. It appears sometime after the Michigan reservoir, I think. Maybe it occurs when he takes the knife from the guy and stabs it through and impales the other guy's hand on the hood of the truck. ??? They have gone as far as texturing it differently, but forgot to add the moment he gets it? oO Or maybe Sam was just trying a new fashion. SEAL Team Photo

This photo was supposed to have been taken during the '90/'91 Gulf War, but the SEALs' on the right and left sides both have Mark 14 Mod 0 EBRs, the creation of which didn't begin until 2000, around a decade after the Gulf War. Unless you can find a verifiable source (i.e. a statement by Ubisoft), Sam's middle name is not "Leo". I don't care if you think it is, it's not. And don't go giving me some gaming journalism article unless their material cites Ubisoft. Everything that we have on this wiki is backed by the games and official Ubisoft statements. Doesn't he seem a bit young?
