Silencer

A suppressor for the FN Five-seveN Tactical.

A suppressor (also called a sound suppressor or silencer) is a device that attaches to the barrel of a firearm to reduce noise and visible muzzle flash when firing.

OverviewEdit

Suppressors are used to reduce the noise and muzzle flash of a shot by containing, cooling and releasing the propellant gases as the bullet leaves the barrel of the gun. Sound suppressors are commonly used by both covert military and tactical police forces in situations where stealth is a necessity. Sometimes referred to as a "silencer", a suppressor does not completely eliminate the sound of a gunshot, but only reduces it.

Usage in Splinter Cell series Edit

During Third Echelon's operations from 2001-2011, the suppressor was one of the most important piece of equipment for a Splinter Cell operative considering their covert operational missions and high-risk objectives. During Splinter Cell agent Sam Fisher's work in Third Echelon, he was issued a sound suppressor for his Five-seveN and SC-20K M.A.W.S. The suppressors were also used by Agent One and Agent Two during their operation from 2007 to around 2008 during their training and missions.

Splinter Cell: ConvictionEdit

In Splinter Cell: Conviction, the suppressor appears in the game as an available upgrade to unlocked weapons for the player. The suppressor upgrade is available for the following weapons:

TriviaEdit

  • The suppressor has been featured in all of the Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell series video games to date.
  • The noise output between the Five-seveN and the SC-20K M.A.W.S. are rather drastic, and this difference can be seen (and tested) more clearly in Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory by paying attention to the sound meter.
  • The Five-seveN USG in Splinter Cell: Conviction uses a unique suppressor unlike the other Splinter Cell games: the suppressor is built-in and doesn't extend out from the barrel as an attachment.
