The International Space Station is a space station, or a habitable artificial satellite, in low Earth orbit. Its first component launched into orbit in 1998, and the ISS is now the largest artificial body in orbit and can often be seen with the naked eye from Earth. The ISS consists of pressurised modules, external trusses, solar arrays and other components. ISS components have been launched by Russian Proton and Soyuz rockets as well as American Space Shuttles.
The ISS serves as a microgravity and space environment research laboratory in which crew members conduct experiments inbiology, human biology, physics, astronomy, meteorology and other fields. The station is suited for the testing of spacecraft systems and equipment required for missions to the Moon and Mars. The ISS maintains an orbit with an altitudeof between 330 and 435 km (205 and 270 mi) by means of reboost manoeuvres using the engines of the Zvezda module or visiting spacecraft. It completes 15.54 orbits per day.
2007: East Asian Crisis Edit
On June 23rd, 2007, news reports from World News Media had notified news subscribers and watchers of the program that communications with the International Space Station had been lost. This loss in communication with the astronauts cause the technicians to fear that it had been hit by a micrometeor. Some reports had later on said that in order to rescue the astronauts currently on the ISS, they would have to 'bootstrap'. The trapped astronauts were eventually rescued by a Chinese astronaut, with the ISS presumably being repaired afterwards after facing detrimental damage.
- Despite not playing any central role in the story of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, the International Space Station and the story of the trapped crew was a backstory that was told by an email and various guards encounter by the player throughout the game.
- In fact, the start of the backstory begins on the first level, Lighthouse, and the conclusion of the backstory finished on the final level, Kokubo Sosho. Two JGSDF soldiers patrolling near the start of the last mission mention that the ISS astronauts were rescued by the PRC, after a Chinese taikonaut space-walked over from his rocket.
