Washington, D.C. had a very prominent role as the prime location during the Third Echelon Conspiracy in 2011 when Third Echelon, an initiative of the National Security Agency, was under the influence of the new director of Third Echelon, Tom Reed, was appointed. Reed, under the orders of a mysterious organization that was referred to as simply 'Megiddo', had put into motion the plan to seize control of the White House by Vice President Calvin Samson after the President of the United States was assassinated. This plan, however, was foiled by former Splinter Cell agent Sam Fisher under orders from the President herself and Third Echelon technical analyst Anna Grímsdóttir.
