LKP

Last Known Position (LKP) is a feature in the Splinter Cell series where enemies identify the previous location where the player was sighted at. While the concept appeared in previous Splinter Cell games, the feature was focused more and brought forth as a prime gameplay mechanic players could exploit in Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Overview[]

The gameplay mechanic of Last Known Position is mainly used as a means to flank an enemy by allowing them to focus on the player's previous position. When the LKP ghost appears in the environment, hostiles will move through the area (focusing on the LKP) while the player can seize the opportunity by either taking out enemies or by slipping out of the immediate area unnoticed.

In Splinter Cell: Conviction, the player's LKP is shown as a 'ghost' model of the player (represented as a translucent 3D character). In previous games, the player was never shown a 'ghost model', but enemies would react to their previous location by either just firing at the location or taking cover and waiting for visual confirmation of the player. In Splinter Cell: Blacklist, the gameplay mechanic stayed mostly the same, with the ability to remove the player's 'ghost' by playing on Perfectionist.

Trivia[]

  • Using the LKP mechanic plays a big factor for one of the P.E.C. challenges in Conviction.
