A view through the 4× scope.

A 4× scope is a sighting device attachment used for magnifying. The 4× scope is equipped with a crosshair, and the device itself is typically attached to a weapon to improve accuracy and increase overall range for the user.

Overview[]

The 4× scope is an optical refracting telescope designed to attach to weapons to give the user increased range with the weapon. The scope is ideal for long distances, allowing the user a more accurate view when firing upon far objects. The scope quadruples the affected area, greatly increasing clarity and range for any weapon the 4× Scope is attached to. The 4x scope may cause lag and increase the difficulty to aim for low-performance systems.

Gameplay[]

In Splinter Cell: Conviction, the 4× scope appears as an upgrade for players, costing 300 P.E.C. points to unlock for a select few weapons. It increases the range of the weapon and when aiming down the scope, but the weapon (when aiming down sights) can only be fired in short bursts. In Conviction, there are two weapons can be upgraded with a 4x scope: the AK-47 and the SCAR-H.

Trivia[]

  • The 4x scope in Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction is modeled after the ACOG (Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight), a series of telescopic sights manufactured by Trijicon. The recticle is similar to the one used in real life.
    • In addition, its appearance during the flashback level is anachronistic because the level takes place during the 1991 Gulf War, while the ACOG was not developed until the early 2000s.
  • Since the attachment system in Splinter Cell: Conviction is permanent, players should strongly consider whether or not they want the scope on a given weapon or not because they cannot remove it later.
