Intro Cutscene[]

[Over the Atlantic Ocean]

[October 30th, 2004 17:11 hours]

(Sam Fisher, Anna Grimsdottir, and Vernon Wilkes, Jr. are in the Osprey. Grim is using the laptop that Sam recovered from the oil rig, while Wilkes is attempting to connect Sam to his daughter, Sarah Fisher)

Sam: How much longer is this gonna take?

Wilkes: Your daughter's on the line. Just running the encryption.

Grim: Black hell!

Sam: What's up, Grim?

Grim: The data you cloned off the rig! There's no way the Georgians could've gotten this much intel without a man inside the CIA.

Wilkes: Fisher, you're up!

(Sam takes the phone from Wilkes)

Sarah: Dad?

Sam: Sarah. Hi.

Sarah: Where are you?

Sam: On my way home.

Sarah: I thought you were gonna call last week.

Sam: Something came up. I'm... sorry.

Sarah: That's alright. Were you in Georgia?

(Sam attempts to look at their location on a screen behind him, but the power suddenly goes down and the screen and all of the lights turn off. Wilkes gives Sam a concerned look.)

Sam: Honey, you know I can't answer that.

Sarah: Yeah, I know. I was just watching it on T- ah!

(The line is abruptly cut off)

Sam: Sarah? Sarah!

(The Osprey suddenly loses control and the 3 of them are thrown around the room until the pilot manages to regain control)

Sam: Grimsdottir! Wilkes! Are you okay?

Grim: I think so...

(Sam helps Wilkes up to his feet while the pilot explains)

Pilot: Hope everybody's alright back there! We just had a faulty collision warning. I've never seen anything like it. The entire HUD went haywire.

Sam: Anybody have a line back to Third Echelon?

Irving Lambert: (through Sam's earpiece) I'm here, Fisher.

Sam: What the hell's going on?

(Irving Lambert appears on a video screen in front of Sam.)

Sam: What the hell's going on?

Lambert: Nikoladze just declared war on the US.

Sam: What?!

Lambert: The Georgians hit our communications, transportation, power grids, we still don't know how extensive the damage is.

Sam: What's our defense? What are we doing?

Lambert: What do we have? Nikoladze caught us with our pads down. All we've got is the laptop you pulled off the oil rig.

Sam: My daughter.

Lambert: I know, I know. I've got people heading over there. This whole country's a mess.

Sam: I need to see Sarah.

Lambert: You know what you need to do. We're helpless until we find Nikoladze. You're heading for the CIA. Your mission just became critical.

End cutscene.

Wilkes: No sweat, man. We got a better way in this time.

(Wilkes opens up a briefcase with several fake IDs and passports in it. He searches through the IDs until he finds the right one.)

Wilkes: CIA... CIA... Ha!

(He picks out an ID and hands it to Sam.)

Wilkes: CIA.

(The Osprey continues en route towards the Agency.)

End Cutscene.

News[]

[October 30th, 2004]

Morris Odell: Failure at the Red Bear Army Community Hospital in Mississippi resulted in 17 deaths and over 30 injuries. Both county electricity and backup generators were destroyed, leaving...

Morris Odell: ...military train traveling to north of Virginia collided with a commuter rail line after an apparent failure of it's automated rooting system. US military has not released the contents of the train's cargo, though federal authorities have evacuated a 20-mile radius surrounding the wreckage.

Morris Odell: ...though no official death toll has been given, initial reports indicate the deaths of over 40 enlisted men. Potential civilian casualties are believed to be much lower.

General: Newspapers talking about cyber terrorism, information crisis, information warfare. Call it what you will, but realize that no American is safe until we mobilize our army.

Morris Odell: Rescue workers, their information grid entirely disabled, were unable to respond to the crash for nearly an hour. Injuries became fatalities, as...

Morris Odell: ...to Kombayn Nikoladze, the Georgian president still in hiding. Though his first wave of cyber terrorism focused on military targets, intelligence proposes that a large scale civilian target could just as easily...

President Bowers: We have faced terror before and triumphed. I promise here to the American people that we will triumph again. Earth is too small a place for the perpetrators of these acts to hide. The United States and her allies will enact a justice that is (as the picture begins to mess up) swift, cruel, and absolute.

End news.

In-game[]

(Scene starts with Fisher outside CIA HQ, while it rained and he was about to breach in)

Irving Lambert: (Radio) Time to get to work, Fisher. Let me reiterate: We cannot afford any casualties. The NSA doesn't operate in the U.S. We don't spy on other agencies.

Sam Fisher: I'm not here.

Lambert: That's right. You've lost existence privileges until this mission's over. We've synced a timer on your OpSat to a pause in the ventilation system fans. You'll have a limited window of opportunity to use it for insertion.

If the player sets off any alarms[]

(First alarm)

Lambert: This operation is based around stealth, watch the alarms.

(Third alarm)

Lambert: That's our limit, one more alarm and I'm aborting the mission.

(Fourth alarm)

Lambert: That's one alarm too many, the mission's over. [Mission failed - You sounded too many alarms]

(Sam sneaked towards the building with two guards dealing with a van driver.)

CIA Security: We got to follow the books Martivar.

(The driver takes a brace position while the guards frisk him.)

Martivar: I've got a lot of work I could be doing.

CIA Security: Just a few more minutes.

Martivar: Who was it that fingered me?

CIA Security: Be reasonable, man.

Martivar: Of course. You can't tell me.

CIA Security: It's regulations.

Martivar: I hope you're not wasting my time for having an Arabic grandmother.

CIA Security: That's ridiculous!

Martivar: Is it? Guess what guys, I'm Islamic. Oooga booga booga.

CIA Security: Give it a rest.

Martivar: Whatever.

(Sam has the chance to infiltrate using either the paused fans on the left of the building and into the maintenance room or above the canopy where a small vent shaft is that takes him into the main lobby.)

(If the timer runs out:)

Lambert: Dang. You’re gonna have to find some way besides the AC vent to get inside. The fan just kicked back in.

(He then heads through the lobby and into the other room past a deactivated metal detector and into a hall with an elevator. A staff member is talking on his phone)

CIA Guard1: Are you going to be staying at the hospital?... You mean when she wakes up. Listen, thanks for coming in. I know the last thing you wanna be doing at a time like this is answering questions... We couldn't assume it was a coincidence. Thanks for your understanding, let me know if there's anything more we can do.

(Sam surpasses the guard and heads into the elevator heading to the lower floors and moves through a corridor)

Cutscene:

[CIA Headquarters, Langley, Virginia, USA]

[October 31st, 2004, 22:03 hours]

(Sam Fisher, disguised as a CIA employee, enters through the main lobby. Ahead of him is a series of turnstiles with a security guard behind a desk just beyond them. Sam scans his ID and enters through one of the turnstiles. The security guard briefly glances up at him as he passes by. Sam goes down the hallway and enters an elevator. Sam pushes a button, and as the elevator door closes, he begins to remove his employee disguise, revealing his regular outfit underneath. By the time the door opens back up, he is dressed from head to toe in his regular outfit. He activates his night vision goggles and proceeds with the mission.)

End Cutscene.

In Game:

Lower floors[]

Lambert: Just got word from our man inside, he says your SC-20K's in place. You can retrieve it in the storage room behind the generator backup.

Sam: Goody.

Lambert: I'd be ignorant not to arm you, but keep it holstered. One agency fatality means the mission's over.

(If Sam kills anyone:)

Lambert: Good lord Fisher, have you gone mad? I don't know what to say. The mission's over. Get out of there, you're finished. [Mission failed]

(Sam continues forth into the corridor and passes through a spot where a receptionist speaks to a passer-by personnel)

Receptionist: Good, it's not ideal, but it looks like we are covered.

CIA Guard2: Like I said, this is tight as security gets, unless congress admits we can't run this place on pocket change.

Receptionist: You said it wasn't critical.

CIA Guard2: It's not, I think we can maintain.

Receptionist: You're sure?

CIA Guard2: I...Yeah, I'm sure. I'm just tired.

Receptionist: Overtime?

CIA Guard2: I'm on hour fifteen.

Receptionist: It's a crisis, man. Crunch time.

CIA Guard2: Meaning I got to get back to it.

Receptionist: I'll see you around.

(Sam continues near a door with a keypad, and only the guard in the small office, overlooking the control room, has the code.)

P.A.: Due to recent events, all security will remain at level 3 patrol until further notice.

(Sam enters heading down to an archive with some personnel checking the files)

CIA Archive: OK. 0J-8675307, 0J-8675308, 0J-8676..3.. Hold up. Aw, man... OK. 0J-8675305, 0J-8675306, 0J-8675307...

(With careful sneak, Sam bypasses through archive and goes up to the storage, finding his SC-20K and some launcher projectiles. Next he goes to another hall, while passing through a personnel speaking on his phone.)

CIA Staff: Yeah, I guess. Do you know anybody who was hurt? Man.

Near main server room[]

(As Sam heads to near another series of offices crawling with more patrolling guards and across it, a glass door leading to the server room.)

Lambert: Fisher, GPS shows you within sight of the server. Grimsdottir's standing by, she'll be ready to trace the leak soon as you can get access.

(Soon, Sam enters the server room and sneaks nears the main computer patching through the data.)

Sam: All right, Lambert, we're in.

Lambert: Good. Grim?

Anna Grimsdottir: I'm inside. Just... there. The leak is a low security PC registered to one Mitchell Dougherty.

Lambert: Great. Dougherty's PC is your new objective, Fisher. I'll upload the details to your OpSat.

(Sam leaves the server and heads further down the hall, whilst hearing a Public Announcement)

P.A.: Please note there is no longer a smoking session in the cafeteria. All smoking is restricted to designated smoking terraces on the fifth floor.

(Sam sneaks further through halls and corridors, another Public Broadcast is heard)

P.A.: Terminal access will be restricted to users and administrators until further notification.

(Sam goes downstairs to a keypad door and upon entering at the testing department, listening to a guy talking on a phone.)

CIA Staff2: Well tell Clarence I'm gonna have his ass and his badge for this! B- Because I'm looking at agency photographs of Red Bear on TV! Find out what agency media the press has, anything they haven't shown yet get back before they do. I- I don't know, I don't care! Fix it!

(If the phone conversation gets interrupted at any point:)

Phone: Hello? Charlie? He- Hello? Hey, can you hear me? I- I'm hanging up. Try calling me back.

(Sam continues into the next room, past a turret, and up an elevator.)

Near Dougherty's office[]

Lambert: I just sent you Dougherty's file. He's in Information Retrieval, office 508.

Sam: What do I do with Dougherty?

Lambert: Stay out of his way for now. We'll get back to you when we find more on him.

(If Sam grabs or knocks out Dougherty before accessing his computer:)

Lambert: Good lord Fisher, have you gone mad? I don't know what to say. The mission's over. Get out of there, you're finished. [Mission failed]

(Sam progresses near another office where two personnel are listening to a recording of one of Kombayn Nikoladze's messages to the U.S.)

CIA Staff3: We found traces of the media in a secure data forwarding service in Holland, another in Bangkok and three in Canada.

CIA Staff4: Any order?

CIA Staff3: No.

CIA Staff4: Take it back. Turn up the volume.

Kombayn Nikolaze: (recording) The foolish avarice and arrogance of a nation, that still believes there is such a thing as a moral superpower.

CIA Staff4: Take it back to believes.

CIA Staff3: What, the chain sound?

Nikoladze: *rewind* A nation, that still believes there is...

CIA Staff4: No, it's like a moaning in the background.

Nikoladze: *rewind* That still believes there is a...

CIA Staff4: You hear that?

Nikoladze: *rewind* That still believes...

CIA Staff3: I don't hear it.

Nikoladze: *rewind* [high pitch] That still believes...

CIA Staff3: I honestly don't hear tha.. I think there's a chain rattling around the key sound.

CIA Staff4: Let me check this with the media people.

CIA Staff3: Alright, I'll be here.

(Sam presses forward to the next room of cubicles and side offices. Dougherty is seen leaving his office and Sam goes to patch to his computer.)

Lambert: Great work, Fisher. How're we doing, Grim?

Grimsdottir: Working on it. Very clever back door, this looks like Philip Masse's work. Bouncing to a server... "Servkalina_Va." Which is... the Kalinatek Building in... Oh black hell. Somebody spotted me. They shut down...

Lambert: (Interrupting) We'll call back...

Lambert: Fisher, we're gonna need you to bag Dougherty.

Sam: What happened with Grimsdottir?

Lambert: We'll worry about that, you worry about Dougherty. Wait for him to take a smoke break, it'll make grabbing him easier. Details on your OpSat.

(If the player grabs or knocks out Dougherty before he gets to the terrace, after accessing his computer:)

Lambert: What are you doing, Fisher? He was headed in the right direction. Now you're gonna have to carry him all the way to the truck.

(Sam continues through a hall and enters a theater where some people are listening to a lecture.)

CIA Lecturer: ...meaning we have three points of attack. Two transformers coming from the county electric supply and the backup generator. Agent Marks has been trying to sell us on the idea of electrostatic fuel bombs, but the blast radius doesn't figure. A logic bomb activated in the hospital's archival systems seventy hours earlier, approximately 10 PM on the 28th of October, effectively wiped out our chances of tracing the attack digitally. However, we do know how they gained access to the transformers. These are hospital security access codes. The only parties who have these codes, are hospital directors and us. If these codes came form CIA files, then... Excuse me... *Talks to his phone* Yeah? Yeah, I'm telling them about it now. Oh, hold on a second. *To the crowd* Umm, I'm gonna be a few minutes if you guys want to take a break... *On his phone again* Alright, I'm back.

(Sam leaves the theater and enters the hall again passing through a break room. Mitchell Dougherty is seen chatting another personnel.)

Mitchell Dougherty: Oh man, that's rough, dawg.

CIA Staff5: Yeah, like on the train.

Mitchell Dougherty: She alright?

CIA Staff5: She's fine. But it was close. I mean, she says she saw bodies.

Mitchell Dougherty: Hey, careful with your coffee.

CIA Staff5: So, now my whole family's spooked. My wife doesn't want to send the kids to school tomorrow.

Mitchell Dougherty: You spilled your coffee.

CIA Staff5: Christ! In fact I'm supposed to call her... eeh, I gotta run.

Mitchell Dougherty: Alright, I'm going for a smoke. You gonna be around later?

CIA Staff5: No, I'm taking off.

Mitchell Dougherty: Hey, you spilled coffee. Somebody's gonna have to clean that up.

CIA Staff5: I got to run, Mitch. Take it easy.

(Dougherty goes out from the break room through the terrace, while Sam pursuits him. Sam sneaks up behind him and either grabs him or knocks him out.)

Lambert: Jr. Wilkes is in position for extraction. He's with Special Agent Baxter, an interrogations expert. They've got a disappearance trick parked in the back.

(Sam gets Dougherty out in the open and starts going down the roof by the service stairs.)

Lambert: I've got another complication for you. Some CIA security dick is chatting up Jr. Wilkes and Baxter.

Fisher: How were they spotted?

Lambert: They weren't hiding. NSA presence on Langley is completely legit.

Fisher: Hm... The only problem is me and Dougherty.

Lambert: Right. A SIGINT ninja with an unconscious bureaucrat on his shoulder is less than copacetic, so don't let him see you.

(Sam descends further down to the back of the CIA headquarters with Dougherty until he reaches the parking space where a CIA guard speaks with Wilkes and Baxter.)

CIA Guard3: You mean you actually deal with humans sometimes?

Wilkes: Rarely, but yeah.

CIA Guard3: Awesome. so ah... what do you use?

Baxter: I don't understand the question.

CIA Guard3: You know.. what kind of drugs do you use?

Baxter: I'm clean.

Wilkes: I think he means for interrogations. For getting people to talk.

Baxter: Right... ah... I like barbiturates. There's no such thing as a truth serum, but barbiturates are pretty good.

CIA Guard3: What, like reds and blues?

Wilkes: What's that stuff? Pento... something.

Baxter: Pentobarbital? That's a good one. Of course, people don't reveal anything useful while they're under the influence. They babble, they fantasize, but when they regain sobriety, they think they gave everything away while high. Then they'll give you everything, because they think you've already got it.

CIA Guard3: Wow, that's creepy.

Baxter: Yeah.

(If Sam knocks out Wilkes or Baxter:)

Lambert: Good lord Fisher, have you gone mad? I don't know what to say. The mission's over. Get out of there, you're finished. [Mission failed]

(Once Sam manages to grab the CIA guard)

Wilkes: You doing all right?

Wilkes: Oh, thank god. I thought he'd never go away.

Baxter: This our friend?

Wilkes: That's the man.

Sam: Pleased to meet you.

Baxter: And that must be Dougherty.

Sam: He's all yours.

Wilkes: Where's Dougherty?

Sam: I still have to get him.

Baxter: We need to move quick.

Wilkes: Lambert's freaking out about this Kalinatek thing.

Sam: I'll get him.

(If Sam hangs around without Dougherty)

Baxter: We're not going anywhere until you give me Dougherty.

(Once Sam brings Dougherty to the Van)

Wilkes: Did Lambert tell you about Sarah?

Sam: No.

Wilkes: She's fine. The blackout spooked her, but she's completely alright.

Sam: Ah.

Wilkes: Don't get too emotional. Let's get out of here.

Sam: Thanks, Wilkes.

[Mission complete]
